![]() Plymouth Artist Awarded 1st Place In Watercolor At Duxbury's 26th Annual Winter Juried Show Plymouth artist P. Anthony Visco has recently been awarded 1st place in watercolor at the Duxbury Art Associations 26th annual winter juried show, which ran through April 30, 2000. The awards were given out at the shows opening reception held at the Art Complex Museum, Duxbury, MA. Mr. Visco's prize winning "Pot Pourri" is a full sheet, framed transparent watercolor painting of a small brass and copper shop located on one of the many streets in Saudi Arabia. A panel of 5 jurors selected 106 pieces from over 500 entries. Jurors comments for the 1st place winner reflected an interesting approach to the judging of "Pot Pourri". Comments included, "Although subject in things, it works on an abstract level. Always more to look at. Lots of visual play. Looks like you can't see it all in one glance. So much abstractions, It's interesting on many levels." This is the latest in many awards honoring his work in transparent watercolor. It's the second time Tony has received an award for first place in this prestigious competition. The Plymouth artist had spent a few months traveling throughout the Middle East and found the shops on the old city streets a befitting theme for this current painting. The kettles, pots, pans, trunks, brass and copper lamps piled in a heap, seemingly thrown against the facade of this boutique type shop, suggested a feeling of abandonment. It's almost as if they were cast aside in favor of newer, more modern shopping complexes that are springing up throughout the world. This stand alone theme is one that Mr. Visco has depicted in many of his watercolors over the years. Tony has been conducting evening watercolor classes at the Salt Winds Yankee Barn in Kingston, MA. He is a current member of the New Art Forum, The North River Art Association and an associate member of the New England Watercolor Society. His work has been seen in galleries on Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod and Egg Harbor, Wisconsin. Locally his work may be seen at the Golden Gull Studios, in Plymouth, MA and The Frame Shoppe, in Kingston, MA or by visiting his web site at http://www.clcmarketing.com/pav.
